Professor Uli Hareus from the ENT Department in Munich has visited our Department on 8-10 Dec 2011. The aim of the visit was to present a lecture about the reconstructive surgeries after oncological procedures within head and neck. 40 doctors from Poznan have participated in very interesting discussion, presenting Polish experience comparing to enormous material from Munich.
On the second day of the visit a surgery was performed together - buccopharyngectomy extended with a partial resection of anterior and middle cranial fossa with an exposure of interal carotid arthery, Eustachian tube, pterygo-palatal fossa and infratemporal fossa. A tissue deficit was supplied by a 2 free flaps from the forearm and the tight. This extended salvage surgery enabled radial excision of the neoplasm deriving from the oral part of the throat. The surgery lasted 18 hours and finished succesfully.
