On Wednesday, March 1, 2023, students and lecturers of Audiology at De Montfort University (Leicester, UK) came to the second floor of the University Hospital - they visited the Department and Clinic of Phoniatrics and Audiology and the Department and Clinic of Otolaryngology and Laryngological Oncology.
Where did the idea and interest come from?
As part of the cooperation between De Montfort University and the Department of Acoustics of the Faculty of Physics of the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań, a few-day visit to the Morasko campus was organized. However, the guests really wanted to learn not only about the theoretical aspects, but also about the practical aspects of the diagnosis and treatment of hearing disorders.
In the company of Assoc. Prof. Michał Karlik MD PhD (head of the Department of Phoniatrics and Audiology) and Assoc. prof. Wojciech Gawęcki MD PhD (representing Assoc. Prof. Jacek Banaszewski MD PhD, head of the Department of Otolaryngology and Laryngological Oncology) had the opportunity to visit audiological laboratories, learn about the possibilities of both diagnostics of hearing disorders in children and adults, as well as surgical treatment (including patients with hearing implants). Both the equipment of the laboratory and the wide range of operations carried out in the Poznań center made an impression.
Despite the exhausting few days of the visit to Poznań, the guests kept asking about the details of the Universal Newborn Hearing Screening Program conducted in Poland, as well as early cochlear implantation in children.
The meeting was one of the elements of the developing cooperation between the Department of Phoniatrics and Audiology and the Department of Otolaryngology and Laryngological Oncology with the Department of Acoustics of the Faculty of Physics of the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań.
