At the beginning of July, a surgical robot adapted to ear operations appeared in the Clinic - RobOtol by Collin from France, with which our doctors have been cooperating for many months. Thanks to this, we were prepared to use this state-of-the-art equipment. We used it in 3 operations on deaf patients to insert a cochlear implant with the use of a robot. It was successful in all procedures, although in one we used a rarely performed approach, the so-called suprameatal approach. Intraoperative measurements showed correct placement of the electrodes by the robot at a speed of 0.2-1 mm / sec, which was controlled by the doctor thanks to the appropriate joystick. One of the goals we set up was to preserve the current hearing. Time will tell if this has happened. The operations were performed by a team composed of: Assoc. prof. Wojciech Gawęcki, Dr. Andrzej Balcerowiak and Dr. Piotr Dąbrowski.
These operations were very popular in the media, both electronic and paper, on the radio and many TV channels.
