Head and Neck Surgery
We cannot overcome the pandemic - at the Clinic level, you can see all our weaknesses in the clash with such a serious opponent. We had to cancel our live European ENT surgery session. At the online meeting of moderators and IT specialists from different countries, it was clear that the virus attacks in many countries so strongly that numerous operating theaters are unable to secure a good transmissions (lack of staff, quarantine, lack of sick IT specialists, etc.).
Today a building for patients with Covid is being opened in our hospital, an additional 18 intensive care beds and 30 observation beds. The staff for this unit are anaesthesiologists and all hospital doctors on a rotating basis.
In one operating room, we gave a place for neurosurgeons from the currently infectious building into the Clinic, and the Department of Phoniatrics and Audiology left its place them for them. To save the mass of patients waiting for surgery, the block has been in operation for much longer. This will ensure that cancer patients will not wait for treatment and will be admitted very quickly, as before.
Good things - a two-shift work has resulted in new publications, grant projects and the publication of the textbook Clinical Otology.
And what's next??? - vaccine.
