Head and Neck Surgery
On 15th April we performed the 1500. cochlear implantation using a Cochlear 522 electrode. We made this large number of cochlear implants for 25 years - since January 1994. They were received by children from 11 months of age to the age of 81 years. Some patients have bilateral implants, and we use devices from two companies: australian Cochlear and american Advanced Bionics. Over the years, we have used several different models of speech processors. Our program constantly involves a group of over 20 specialists - otologists, phoniatrists, audiologists, speech therapists, psychologists, acousticians and clinical technicians. The Laryngological Rehabilitation center works all the time, where initial diagnostics is carried out, as well as management of patients after implantation. A huge positive impulse in the development of cochlear implantation was the Program of Universal Hearing Screening for Newborns in Poland, created in 2003 together with the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity Foundation. It works every day, and the Poznań clinic is responsible for coordinating it.
